Maria Shehata

Maria Shehata is a multi award-winning Egyptian-American comedian, writer, director, and actor based in London. Known for her exceptional talent, quick wit, and effortlessly engaging stage presence, Maria has appeared on Live at the Apollo, Comedy Central Live, Dave’s Comedy Guide to Life, and BBC’s Period Dramas and Breaking the News.
Her writing has been featured in a variety of esteemed platforms such as “Modern Love” in the New York Times, Comic Relief, and Radio 4. She has earned recognition for her screenwriting talent by clinching the titles of Winner of Best Comedy at Miami Web Fest, and Best Comedy Screenplay at Best Script Award.
Maria was shortlisted as Top Five Best New Acts and showcased as Pick of the Fringe at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and has supported Jonathan Pie in London’s West End and Bill Burr at the Resorts World Arena.
Maria’s directing work includes the award-winning web series “My Super-Overactive Imagination,” VT’s viral “What if Men and Women Switched for a Day?,” and in theatre she has directed critically-acclaimed solo shows, as well as the 5 star musical comedy, ‘Wife Material.’
Maria is co-host of the weekly comedy podcast 2 Non Doctors with NYC based comedian Liz Miele.
