Martha Howe-Douglas
Martha is best known as the lead female playing various roles in all 5 series of the hit children’s TV show, ‘Horrible Histories’ (BBC). Along with the rest of the cast from ‘Horrible Histories’, Martha co-wrote and starred in all 3 series of the the fantasy comedy ‘Yonderland’ (Sky 1) playing Mum, Debbie Maddox.
More recently, Martha has gained notoriety as ‘Lady Button’ in the smash hit BBC comedy ‘GHOSTS’.
In 2018, along with her fellow cast members (Simon Farnaby, Jim Howick, Mathew Baynton, Ben Willbond and Laurence Rickard) from ‘Horrible Histories, Yonderland and the BBC Film ‘BILL’, Martha co-created, co-wrote and co-starred in a brand new 6 part comedy called ‘GHOSTS’. ‘
‘GHOSTS’ first aired on Monday 15th April 2019, 9:30pm BBC1. Such was the success and critical acclaim of the sitcom, the team were commissioned by the BBC to create 4 more series as well as three Christmas Specials. CBS Network in the US picked up the show and their version of ‘Ghosts’ has also been a phenomenal success making it the biggest comedy in currently in the US.
After their 5th series broadcast in late 2023 as well as a Ghosts Comic Relief Special with Kylie Minogue, the Ghosts decided it was time to leave Button House for good. The final ever episode was broadcast on Christmas Day 2023 at 7:45pm and became the 4th most watched show on Christmas Day securing over 4.4 million viewers beating all the soaps, Call the Midwife and Michael McIntyre’s Christmas Wheel.
